Why are we here

Mental Health is important. For everyone.

Mental health relates to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It is more important because it affects every aspect of our lives, and mental health conditions influence everything we do, think, or say. Mental and physical well-being are equally crucial components of general wellness.

The Problem

Are we absolutely sure all our children grow in an environment that provides them a platform for positive experiences that they can learn healthily from?

Everybody knows that mental health is they key to happiness and even success in one’s life. However, the development of an individual and that of his thoughts, opinions, ways of thinking and his very approach towards life are all based on what he’s learnt from his experiences as a child.

Imagine if every child had people around him, who always understood him; who not only wanted to discourage negative thoughts and encourage positive thought and action, but also knew EXACTLY HOW!

The various social institutions that a child engages with such as family and education are the very entities that can play the best role in nurturing a child the right way so as to bring out the best in him and help him strengthen and grow on his most positive attitudes.

A huge challenge lies before society in strengthening its social institutions so that they have the resources to ensure overall development of the child.

The Solution

We place special focus on children, the future of our society, and creating an environment that provides natural support for their emotional development and mental well-being.

At OYA, we recognize the importance of mental health in the lives of individuals.

Children are our primary focus. However, social entities are often plural in character and rarely stand isolated from the rest of society. For this reason, we believe in a multi-dimensional, integrated approach towards mental well-being of children.

This approach integrates by:
~ Focusing on children from all socio-economic backgrounds
~ Including children in various settings such as schools, communities and shelter homes
~ Reaching out to various stakeholders in children’s lives such as parents, peers, kin, teachers and the school system
~ Using multiple set of tools and approaches to address mental well-being and emotional development

Integrated Approach

At Oya we not only work with children and youth but we majorly work with their SUPPORT systems - Parents, teachers, family members, staff, care takers, managements - so the cause of positive mental health is addressed in a Holistic manner
